“Wicked Mind” by Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs is Keith’s DJ Pick of the Week! “Wicked Mind” is the “blistering garage-rock single” from the band’s forthcoming album, External Combustion. Set for release on March 4th, External Combustion will be Campbell’s second album as band leader, following the 2020 critically acclaimed album, Wreckless Abandon.
The formation of The Dirty Knobs came about when Mike Campbell, former member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, met Jason Sinay. The two liked the way their guitars sounded together, and formed a band. What began as a less structured project for Campbell in between The Heartbreakers’ touring became something else altogether when they added the rhythm section of bassist Lance Morrison and drummer Matt Laug. With an all-star lineup like this, there’s bound to be great music nearby.
Following the passing of Campbell’s longtime compatriot, friend and bandmate Tom Petty and his performances with Fleetwood Mac on their 2018-2019 World Tour, The Dirty Knobs released their album Wreckless Abandon in 2020 to widespread praise. Outlets such as Forbes and American Songwriter offered praise in their reviews of the album.
The band will finally embark on their first-ever national tour this spring, featuring an extensive run of sold-out headlining shows. Included in this run is a March 15th show at Brooklyn Bowl here in Nashville. Get hyped for that show by watching the video for “Wicked Mind” here:
