Keith’s DJ Pick of the Week is “More Than Friends” by Lukas Nelson & PTOR featuring Lainey Wilson! PTOR is an American rock band out of California led by the son of Willie Nelson, Lukas Nelson. Lukas met keys player Logan Metz after moving to Los Angeles from Hawaii to attend Loyola Marymount University. He then met drummer Anthony LoGerfo at a Neil Young concert, where they bonded over the artist. The group went on to play for Neil Young for nearly five years as the backing band of the renowned Canadian musician. Bassist Corey McCormick and percussionist Tato Melgar complete the group as they continue to create records and perform internationally.

Their new single, “More Than Friends,” is the first track from their eighth studio album, Sticks and Stones. “More Than Friends” is an ode to the feelings that surface when contemplating the jump from friends to lovers. Written by Nelson, the nature of the track called for a female vocalist bringing Lainey Wilson to the mic. With flirtatious lyrics, the two vocals are the focal point of the song. Straddling sounds of rock, country, soul, and folk, their voices sit proudly on top of layered backing instrumentation. Grooving with choppy backline arrangements and pocketed guitar riffs, “More Than Friends” will have you tapping your foot and itching to take a risk.

Look out for Sticks and Stones by Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, releasing July 14.
