Lightning 100 is happy to announce Leah Blevins and her song “Diggin’ In The Coal” as our Local Artist of the Week!
Country and Americana artist Leah Blevins hails from Sandy Hook, Kentucky and has brought an Appalachian sound to the Nashville scene. Her distinctive twangy, high soprano singing voice is reminiscent of iconic American country singers like Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, both artists from which Blevins finds inspiration. “Diggin’ In The Coal” is the third song released for her upcoming album, All Dressed up, which was entirely recorded in Nashville. Grammy Award winning producer Dan Auerbach is producing the album. He is also known as the vocalist and guitarist of The Black Keys and has produced artists like Hank Williams Jr., Cage the Elephant, and Lana Del Ray.
This track features classic country elements like twinkling steel guitar and playful claps. The chugging drums and acoustic guitar give this song an energetic, dancy feel. Accompanied by beautiful harmonies, Leah’s stark and clear voice is the stand-out on this track. In this hopeful song she sings of finding light in a dark time with lyrics like, “But if you stick around, I just might make it, Whenever I get down, you help me shake it from my soul, I guess I found a diamond while I was digging in the coal.”
Her album will release on March 20th! Don’t miss her album release show happening at the Exit/In on the same night.
