Our Frothy Monkey‘s local artist of the week is The Brook and the Bluff with “Calling Cards”!

Originating out of Bluff Park and Mountain Brook Alabama, comes The Brook and the Bluff. The now Nashville natives have been accumulating a steadfast fan base with their vibrant, rousing, and emotionally resonant live shows. They have wrapped in fans by supporting tours with artists such as Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Mt. Joy, and Ashe. All while continuing to release consistent and reveling indie-rock tunes. The band’s stunning vocal harmonies are a hallmark of their sound. Weaving together smooth soul-soaked melodies that echo the spirit of early 2000’s alternative and classic indie. Their track “Savannah” became a fan favorite, immensely helping the band build its loyal following. With the songs blend of mellow vibes and catchy rhythms, it showcased the bands distinctive approach to indie-soul fusion.

The Brook and The Bluff have been climbing the ranks here at Lightning 100. From originally being selected as an artist for the615 in 2021, to DJ pick of the week, and now to Local artist of the week!

Their new song “Calling Cards”, off their latest EP This Could All Go Nowhere, has a slow and constant buildup. The tension runs throughout the pre-chorus, which contains a groovy beat, vocal harmonies, and piano. The chorus is in-turn is quite bare bones. As it only contains beat-focused drums and guitar, as well as harmonizing vocals. Which truly allows the listener to hone in on its organic beauty. The continuous buildup comes to a grand release with a multitude of moving parts that tickles your mind in the most delightful way. The song feels like a coming of age mantra, examining how relationships can linger. The production feels polished, yet retains a sense of intimacy, pulling listeners in with its emotional depth and catchy hooks. “Calling Cards” demonstrates the band’s growth, balancing their soulful roots with a more expansive, polished sound. One that feels both fresh and familiar.
