Lightning 100 is excited to announce Michigander as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week with their single “Giving Up”!

Michigander is an alt rock outfit spearheaded and formed by chief songwriter Jason Singer. Getting his start in his hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan nearly a decade ago, Singer moved to Nashville to capitalize on steadily increasing momentum fueled by a slew of both smartly crafted singles and keynote performances at Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo. It’s a momentum that has carried Singer to performances at dream venues, signing management deals, and collaborations with musical idols. That momentum will culminate in 2024 with the release of Michigander’s debut full length album. “Giving Up” is the most recent offering.

“Giving Up” is a rootsy rocker that conjures the stadium stomp of indie folk legends past. It’s a cathartic track detailing the freedom that comes with letting go, personified by its sticky scream-along chorus. Singer has a special talent for taking themes of angst and regret, spinning them to capture the unlikely hope and optimism that can arise from even the most dire situations. Singer consequently described the track as an “anthem of people pleasers.” What “Giving Up” offers is a guide to choosing oneself, presented in the form of a powerful and personal anthem.

You can see Michigander Free Fest, where they are set to headline Saturday, August 31st. In addition, the group is on a nationwide tour, the final show being at The Basement East in February 2025. Above all, Michigander’s success continues to prove that the ceiling is merely a recommendation for this rising star.
