Chappell Roan "Good Luck, Babe!" - Steph's DJ Pick of the Week

Steph’s DJ Pick of the Week is Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!”

Chappell Roan has cemented herself as a powerful player in the music industry. She’s truly become a leader in the newest genre of pop. Her entire discography blends 80’s synth pop with the iconic pop hits of the early 2000’s. Her look and stage presence is highly influenced by drag queens- something that solidifies her unique aesthetic. With a sound being classified as ‘camp,’ Chappell Roan has cemented herself as a breath of fresh air in the industry.

“Good Luck, Babe!” marks her first single following her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. This track hits home for a lot of queer fans. It follows a common situationship theme in queer relationships- where someone is struggling to come to terms with themselves. “It’s a song about wishing well to someone who is avoidant of their true feelings,” notes Roan. It’s a raw look into compulsory heterosexuality and how dynamic queer relationships can be.

There’s something so cathartic about the echoing line “You’d have to stop the world to stop the feeling.”  No matter how much you can avoid it, the feeling will always be there. It’s a powerful queer anthem that sits perfectly within her discography. Fresh from opening up Olivia Rodrigo’s tour, and set to start her own headlining tour later this year, Chappell Roan is taking over the charts. “Good Luck, Babe!” is only the beginning of the newest era, and the potential sophomore album, on the way!
