Dan’s DJ Pick of the Week is KALEO’s “Lonely Cowboy!”
“Lonely Cowboy” is the newest single from Icelandic rock band KALEO. This stands as their first release of the new year- and their first release since their sophomore album Surface Sounds. This track is unlike anything the band has released prior.
This release is accompanied by an acoustic performance video filmed in the Colosseum of Rome. It’s a very vulnerable and stripped down version of an otherwise aggressive and gritty track. As their first back in three years, it’s a powerful welcome back into the industry.
The band is truly a worldwide phenomenon. Before their first album dropped, they had played Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo; they were even hand-picked to open for the Rolling Stones on their stadium tour. When that highly anticipated first album dropped, it was met with billions of streams. Their sophomore album followed the same fate.
It’s been three years since that last release. “Lonely Cowboy” is a bold opening to the newest era of the band. Frontman JJ Julius Son had said “ It feels like a Spaghetti Western, and I love those vibes. My friends and family have always encouraged me to put it out, but now was the right time. It’s an important one for me.”
