“Hearts & Minds” by Pillow Queens is Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the Week! Pillow Queens are an indie rock band from Dublin, Ireland. Their lineup consists of vocalists Sarah Corcoran and Pamela Connolly, lead guitarist Cathy McGuiness, and drummer Rachel Lyons. In addition to vocals, Sarah and Pamela contribute either rhythm guitar or bass depending on who the lead vocalist is in each song. The band’s discography includes two studio albums, two EPs, and nearly a dozen singles.
In “Hearts & Minds”, Pillow Queens pour every ounce of emotion into the mix. From the distorted guitars to the heavy drum beats, nothing is spared in terms of performance intensity. Every piece of the instrumental feels intentionally aggressive, even the subdued bass line. Meanwhile, the vocals are raw and upfront, especially with harmonies added in. The band is known for their personal lyrics, detailing their individual struggles to balance their upbringing with their identities.
Pillow Queens released “Hearts & Minds” in February of 2022 to preview their latest album, Leave the Light On.
