Jay: “Cult of Celebrity” The Lambrini Girls

Jay’s DJ pick of this week is “Cult of Celebrity” by the Lambrini girls; a confrontational pop punk anthem that interrogates celebrity culture. Guitarist Phoebe Lunny and Bassist Selin Macieira-Boşgelmez make up british puk band, The Lambrini Girls. They blend provocation with playfulness to achieve their brash sound and sensibility. The Lambrini Girls’ music is cathartic, and this in particular really makes you want to scream into your pillow. In “Cult of Celebrity” the Lambrini Girls reference the seemingly habitual abuse of women and children by elite one percenters, calling out notorious figures like Harvey Weinstein and referencing Epstein’s island. The Lambrini Girls are outspoken and exciting, and this track is a great introduction. Give “Cult of Celebrity” a listen at the link below.

Dan: “Window” Foo Fighters

Dan’s DJ pick of this week is “Window” by Foo Fighters. This new release is complete with all the components that make up beloved band Foo Fighters. Featuring their nostalgic sound, sentimental lyrics, and garage rock influence, this new single is sure to please Foo Fighters fans everywhere. Also, along with this single the Foo Fighters released a delightful music video, born from Dave Grohl’s own concept. And, there’s more to be excited about, since this single is just one song from Foo Fighters’ brand new album “Your Favorite Toy.” “Window” is classic alternative rock at its finest. Steph: “Back of a Truck” Rostam

Stephanie’s DJ pick this week is “Back of a Truck” by Rostam. This new single will be the second track on his upcoming album titled, “American Stories” set to release May 15th. In addition to his pursuits as an artist, Rostam is also a talented producer, working with artists like Haim, Dora Jar, and Leith Ross. But perhaps, Rostam is best known as one of the founding members of Vampire Weekend. Rostam showcases his own voice in this track, with nostalgic writing and hooky melodies. “Back of a Truck” features unique instrumentation, like the Baglama, a long necked lute often used in Turkish folk music as well as other musical traditions in the middle east and central Asia. Make sure to give “Back of a Truck” by Rostam a listen at the link below, and stay tuned for the rest of his album!

Casey: “Coming Home” Kara Frazier featuring Kenny Sharp

For Casey’s DJ pick this week, he selected “Coming Home” by Kara Frazier featuring Kenny Sharp. If you were lucky, you may have caught Kara Frazier perform this brand new track live at 3rd and Lindsley during her set at Music City Mayhem. Kara Frazier was the wildcard pick for Lightning 100’s Music City Mayhem competition this past weekend. In fact, this track is a Music City Mayhem all star event, featuring 2024 champion Kenny Sharp. “Coming Home” blends indie rock edge with classic Nashville country influence. Both Kara Frazier and Kenny Sharp give powerful vocal performances, supporting this fiery single. Rev: “Lost and Alone” Aaron Lee Tasjan

This week Rev’s DJ Pick is “Lost and Alone” by Aaron Lee Tasjan. This recent release features all the Glamericana magic Tasjan is known for. With classic rock motifs and Americana twang, this track fits right in with his discography. “Lost and Alone” stands our for it’s masterful songwriting. Tasjan contrasts his own melancholic lyrics with upbeat production and melody. In the third verse, Tasjan describes his miserable circumstances saying, “sleeping at the bus stop/getting hassled by the cops/ the way I’m living killed my dream.” These lines are followed with a chorus where Tasjan jauntilly repeats, “Lost and Alone/ How’d I end up so lost and alone?” This semi-ironic track has a definite sense of humor, and would be a perfect listen for anyone who prefers to laugh at their own misfortune. So, give this song a listen at the link below!
