“Hurt So Bad” by The Explorers Club is Casey’s DJ pick of the week! The Explorers Club is a band that originated in coastal South Carolina but decided to relocate to Nashville several years ago. Their sound is heavily influenced by The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Byrds, The Monkees, The Zombies, and other throwback favorites. Their single “Hurt So Bad” is a cover of a classic originally released by Little Anthony and the Imperials in 1964. The song was also covered by The Letterman a decade later in 1974.

The Explorers Club’s version of “Hurt So Bad” is anchored by its retro-inspired production. The song features guest vocalist Jeff Celentano. Coming in at 2:12, “Hurts So Bad” is a quick listen that’s enjoyable all the way through. The arrangement includes flowing strings and a horn section, with full harmonies and background vocals that create a sonic lushness.

The Explores Club’s rendition of “Hurts So Bad” will be included on their upcoming album, Wattage. While the band has been elusive about the actual release date, Wattage is available for pre-order here. Be sure to keep up with The Explores Club via their website and check out their cover of “Hurt So Bad” on YouTube below:
