Have you ever bumped into someone randomly multiple times to the point where it felt like the universe was playing a game of tag? But then after getting to talking, you realized this could be one of your best friends. Well, that is exactly what happened for stellar songwriters and producers Gabrielle Grace and Cory Hale. After multiple years of deliberation, encouragement from peers, and collective collaboration ideas, both Grace and Hale decided to create Accidental Friend. Hale would accompany Grace when she headed out on tour. So, this band partnership only made sense. For both Grace and Hale it seemed to be not an “if” this band would happen but a “when”.

With the initiation of the band complete, their first single “Empty Love” was born. The track is comprised of melodic guitar strumming and hefty drum beats, “Empty Love” doesn’t sound so empty. I won’t spoil all the surprises, but the beginning of the song has a sound sample that I find perfectly fits the meaning behind “Empty Love”. The lyrics effortlessly compliment the beat.

The song innovatively communicates how someone is trying to accept the emptiness felt within a relationship. More specifically, how that relationship over time began to lack genuine feelings of love and connection. The song touches on the decision one has to make when a relationship comes to this point. With the decision being- stay in this relationship feeling “Empty Love” and a hollowness that was not present before. Or move onto something unfamiliar and daunting. “Empty Love” is a perfect example of reluctantly staying with the devil you know or moving timidly into the unknown.
