Lightning 100 is excited to announce Katie Pruitt and her song “Blackout” featuring Nolan Taylor as our Local Artist of the Week.

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Katie Pruitt is based in Nashville, Tennessee. Growing up in the Christian South, she gained widespread popularity for her vulnerable folk and indie-rock music. Pruitt explores themes of mental health, faith, and growing up queer. Originally from the Atlanta Suburbs, Pruitt moved to Nashville to attend Belmont. There, she became the first recipient of the BMI songwriting scholarship.

Ever since, Pruitt has continued to blossom. Winning awards such as the prestigious Buddy Holly Prize from the Songwriter Hall of Fame in 2017. The Americana Music Association also nominated her for Emerging Act of the Year. Further, her discography comprises her albums: Expectations (2020), her sophomore album, Mantras, and now her third studio album, Fools for the Fleeting.

Katie Pruitt and Nolan Taylor released “Blackout” on June 12, 2026. The stripped-back, steel-laced acoustic track explores how, even in disaster, human connection matters most. Inspired by tornadoes that nearly hit Pruitt’s house, it came after an ex reached out to see if she was safe.

The song highlights the clarity that comes from almost losing everything. She reminds listeners that relationships and showing up for people are what ground us.

“Blackout” serves as the lead single from Pruitt’s third studio album, Fools for the Fleeting. This album focuses on navigating a chaotic world and accepting that life is temporary.

You can catch Katie Pruitt on her Fools For the Fleeting Tour at the Basement East on December 2nd!
