Lightning 100 is excited to announce Sam Palladio and his song, “Burberry Jacket,” as our Local Artist of the Week!
Sam Palladio grew up in Cornwall, which is in the southwest part of England. He later went to Rose Bruford College and got an Actor Musicianship degree. Sam has also spent a lot of time doing musicals such as “Dreamboats And Petticoats.” Working in both meant that Sam always included some sort of music element in his acting work.
Sam was also a part of a band called Liquid Sister and The Vitesse. During his time at college, he began to write his own songs. He wrote and played acoustic music with a mix of folk, Americana, and Britpop influences. He would work on acting shows and play some midnight gigs in between. This work would help him get a role in the show “Nashville.”
In 2012, Sam moved from England to Nashville to play the role of Gunnar Scott in the ABC musical drama “Nashville.” Although he was coming to Nashville to act, it is a great place to do music as well.
Working with producer T Bone Burnett and some of the industry’s top songwriters gave him the opportunity to learn from experienced musicians every week. He learned new guitar techniques, including Nashville fingerpicking and alternate tunings, while regularly recording songs featured on the show. Looking back, he has described his time on Nashville as less like a job and more like an education that helped shape his own career as a singer-songwriter.
Sam Palladio’s newest single, “Burberry Jacket,” continues to showcase his growth as a songwriter while reconnecting with his British roots. Released on July 10, the song is inspired by the streets and history of London. This is his second release with Nashville-based independent label 3686 Records. Palladio wrote the song with Phil Barnes and Kendall Goodman to create a dark, atmospheric sound. While he has called Nashville home for more than a decade, “Burberry Jacket” talks about the city where he grew up and marks another step forward in his solo music career.
