This week’s Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week is rock & roll band Them Vibes! We will be playing their latest release, “Soul Satisfying.”
Originally from New York, lead singer Brother Love and guitarist Alex Haddad moved to East Nashville nearly a decade ago. Growing up on dance music, the duo aspired to write tunes to make people bust a move. Inspired by 60’s and 70’s artists such as James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, and Curtis Mayfield, the band succeeds in bringing more funk and soul to Nashville. Sharing stages with iconic artists such as Lynard Skynard, Lake Street Dive, and The Flaming Lips, Them Vibes have an undeniable je ne sais quoi.
Released on February 10, 2023, “Soul Satisfying” does exactly as the title says, satisfies the soul. Beginning with a stanky bass line, the song catches your attention immediately. With dissonant harmonies, fiery electric guitar riffs, and horns scattered throughout, “Soul Satisfying” keeps you on your toes, eager to hear more. The lyrics also have a 60’s/70’s quality to them, describing the high you get when around a romantic interest. This is especially shown in verse two stating, “love so hazy, I can’t get enough. Like a Motown record, you got me on my feet. Needles diggin’, hope you’re diggin’ me.”
