While the track’s layers of palm-muted guitar, lo-fi drums, and distant noise scream indie, Coakley’s brutally honest presentation reveals a folk-country ethos that could shoot straight through any musical arrangement.
Bemoaning the loss of a frivolous love, Coakley realizes that, more than anything else, her biggest regret in the relationship was her overcommitment of time. All the while, Coakley can’t shake the feeling that her ex is in the wrong for presenting her with a fake self, meaning that all of this wasted time was spent chasing a persona who didn’t really exist.
