Our Frothy Monkey‘s Local Artist of the Week is Jill Andrews with single “Joy Ride”!

Andrews grew up here in Tennessee, a performer at heart knowing what she wanted from a young age. From dancing and singing alone to Janet Jackson in her bedroom, to performing in her band The Everybodyfields, and now pursuing a solo career- Jill Andrews is making those childhood dreams come true. Andrew’s sound can be described as “irresistibly melodic, genre-bending… anchored in frank songwriting but continuously and unapologetically evolving”.

Modern Age is Andrew’s most recent album. The sound is a mix of indie pop with Americana. The album meditates on growing up and the simplicity of life and love when you’re young. It’s a beautiful time capsule of Andrew’s youth and spirit. Her music overall is ethereal and optimistic, there exists a consistent theme of light synth, acoustic guitar, and bright drums in her sound. Andrews has stated she has a range of musical influences such as Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Her single “Joy Ride” was released on August 8th, 2024. The lyrics paint the picture of nostalgia for a relationship that isn’t what it once was. Andrew’s calls her past love to take her on a “Joy Ride” to relive the passion and romance they once shared. The song is paradisiacal, and still big in sound. Andrew’s vocals sound beautiful and her strong tone adds to the ethereal nature of the song. It truly lives up to its name, as it is the perfect song to blast while on a joy ride.

Jill Andrews will be playing Lightning 100’s Nashville Sunday Night this Sunday, November 24th alongside Matthew Perryman Jones. The show will be at Third & Lindsley with tickets available here. “Joy Ride” has been a popular track in the station’s rotation, and listen to the song once more below!
