Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Blank Canvas” by ALO!

ALO, also known as Animal Liberation Orchestra, is releasing their newest studio album Frames on April 4th. The California based group is made up of Zach Gill, Dan Leibowitz, Steve Adams, and Ezra Lipp. The band was formed by high school friends during their junior year of high school and has been releasing music since 2005. They are currently signed to Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records label and have released four albums with the label. Frames was inspired by the group’s collaborative nature and ability to express their individual artistic windows together. The album introduces fresh lyrics and style while also carrying elements of the band’s classic sound.

“Blank Canvas” is the leading single off the album and showcases the group’s individual talents while also coming together to capture a shared moment. The song took inspiration from a difficult conversation about the political state of the world, and how you can use creative action as a way forward and a coping mechanism. The bridge features powerful lyrics stating “So, I’m gatherin’ up my friends, I′m gatherin′ up my paints / And I’m imaginin′ a masterpiece of compassion and grace/ And in the labor pains of love, the Mod Podge of time and space”. The track is a reminder of the human spirit and how it can be found through creative acts!
