Jayson’s DJ pick of the week is “Listen2me” by Foxwarren!
Foxwarren, is a collective featuring Andy Shauf, Avery Kissick, Daryl Kissick, and Dallas Bryson. After seven years since the bands last release of their debut album, the group is back with their sophomore album “2”. The album creation strays from tradition due to the group’s physical separation. The group developed the project separately from each other in four different home studios based in various provinces of Canada. The band members would upload different vocals, melodies, and song ideas to a shared album. Shauf would combine different fragments from each of the members’ uploads and then skillfully craft various pieces into complete songs. The band perfectly describes the album as “mesmerizing and uncanny, an album that traces two sides of a relationship through 37 minutes of collage art”.
“Listen2me” is the lead single off the album. The track begins with a sampled audio that introduces the theme of troubles between two lovers. The song features playful and artsy instrumentation, bold lyricism, and an easy going melody. With punchy lines like “It’s almost like you never listen to me / when I’m speaking you should listen to me” the song reflects heavy tension between two people. The music video was created by Winston Hacking, an award winning filmmaker and designer. Hacking creates an illusion heavy animated collage to pair perfectly with the upcoming album’s hodgepodge and artistic nature!
