Steph’s DJ pick of the week is “Relationships” by HAIM!
The three Haim sisters have returned with a lead single for their upcoming album. The band features 3 sisters – Este, Alana, and Danielle, each with their own remarkable musical skillset. Growing up in a musical family, the Haim sisters have been familiar with playing together from an early age. After performing with different groups in their early adulthood, HAIM eventually became a full-time pursuit.
Their latest track “Relationships” is a groovy and danceable tune clearly taking some inspiration from the 90’s. HAIM retains their somewhat minimal style containing simple but catchy melodies and great harmonic progressions. Also, this song literally has some of the nicest bass grooves I’ve heard in a minute. More specifically, the bass lines in the verses which kept me wondering where the song might be heading. Though once the chorus hits, it’s clear that HAIM is here to party until dawn. It creates a perfect image of driving down the coast of southern California as the sun is fading across the horizon. “Relationships” is clearly going to be a song on repeat through the summer.
