Jayson’s DJ pick of the week is “Stay, Don’t Be Cruel” by Jedd Hughes & Sarah Buxton!
Jedd Hughes, a native Australian made his way to Nashville in 2002 and has continued to come back to Nashville after various tours and moves to explore different music scenes. Hughes uses his music as an outlet to express stories and experiences he has gone through during his life. In 2019, he released his most recent solo studio album called West. Since then Hughes has continued his dream of creating and writing music. He has continued this goal through his most recent collaboration with Sarah Buxton on their most recent collaborative single.
Sarah Buxton is a Nashville based singer-songwriter who is known for her traditional country sound. She has found success through her own releases and collaborations with Keith Urban, Trisha Yearwood, Florida Georgia Line, and many country artists throughout her career. Her most recent EP, Sumac, was released with Tone Tree Music in 2023. Buxton’s deep rasp and vocal talent is clear throughout her entire discography including on “Stay, Don’t Be Cruel”.
The collaboration highlights both Hughes and Buxton’s individual flair and strengths while also showcasing their combined chemistry. The lyrics tell a story of two strained lovers’ relationship and a back and forth conversation between the two. The lyrics are relatable with lines like “Don’t say something you don’t mean / Don’t get up and walk away from me / I want you to stay here a little longer”. The song features a catchy chorus, powerful vocals, and lively instrumentation that pulls the listeners in and leaves them wanting more. Listen to Jedd Hughes’ full album Night Shades out May 2nd!
