Steph’s DJ pick of the week is “Fly” by Wishy!
The 5-piece indie rock band from Indiana is back with more music in 2025. The act is spearheaded by Nina Pitchkites as well as solo artist and former founding member of Hoops, Kevin Krauter. Wishy is fresh from releasing their full length debut album 777 in August of last year, which was full of unforgettable tracks. Their new song “Fly” is set to be on an upcoming 6-song EP, Planet Popstar, comprised of b-sides from the sessions of 777.
Beginning with a drum machine and acoustic guitars, “Fly” builds its intro with hopeful chord progressions with a slight sense of melancholy in classic Wishy fashion. Nina Pitchkite takes the lead vocals on this piece and provides a smooth and calm delivery. The chorus has a great feel, reminiscent of the 90s alt-pop scene with their incorporation of major7 and sus chords to give it a floating feeling. At the halfway point, a guitar solo cuts through the mix, soaked in effects, with great melodic intention. The track continues to steadily move forward with the whole band until the track ends with shimmering guitar harmonics.
