Lightning 100 is glad to announce Alison Young and her song “From My Window” as our local artist of the week.
Casey’s pick for Local Artist of the Week is Allison Young. Allison Young is a talented singer songwriter whose music draws influence from the past. Her jazzy, vintage, vocals color her songs with a nostalgic quality. Young’s music wouldn’t be out of place next to Ella Fitzgerald and Patsy Cline records in an antique store. Young’s 2024 album Sweet Songs Volume I is a collection of covers, mostly supported by acoustic guitar. These delightful covers demonstrate Young’s skill as a musician and establish her style and inspirations. But, aside from her output as one half of indie folk duo The Bygones, this new single is the first original song Young has released. This piano led ballad is a slight departure from Young’s previous output. But, pleasingly, “From My Window” fits right in with the standards Young frequently revives.
Moreover, “From My Window” is cleverly written and expertly crafted. It’s a playful tune that features old-timey arrangements and Disney esque production, complete with strings, flute, and clarinet. Young’s dreamy lyrics describe a person sitting by their window, peacefully watching the world go by. Its old-timey feel, and clever lyricism give this track its distinct charm. And, Allison Young’s music sounds as classic as her vintage dresses.
Also, Allison Young is a local Nashville artist so be sure to catch her live shows. With stunning vocals and an enchanting stage presence, you won’t want to miss Allison Young. Coming up April 11th, Young will be singing with swing band The Starlight Jamboree at The Skinny Dennis from 7am-2pm. So, ring in spring with some swing, and catch Allison Young at the Skinny Dennis April 11th!
