This week, Keith’s DJ Pick is “Sapling” by Foy Vance! “Sapling” boasts beautiful instrumentation with piano at its forefront. This track features Anderson East and tells a very personal story. Specifically, Vance explains that the song is dedicated to his partner. He notes, “This is the waking up to a harsh reality that my addictions were putting at risk everything I had worked hard for”. He adds, “There was a time in my life that I felt like an oak, but there was no oak there when I looked. Just a fragile sapling, but a sign of life nonetheless”.
Foy Vance holds an incredible resume when it comes to songwriting. Artists Vance has written for include but are not limited to Kacey Musgraves, Ed Sheeran, and Miranda Lambert. Additionally, Vance has a significant discography of his own, with several releases dating all the way back to 2007. It’s clear in his sound and songwriting that he is no stranger to this craft.
“Sapling” (feat. Anderson East) arrives ahead of Vance’s upcoming Signs of Life tour. The tour begins on May 6th and makes a stop in Nashville on May 18th at the James K. Polk Theater. You can channel your excitement for the tour by listening to “Sapling” (feat. Anderson East) here:
