Dan’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Going to Live” by The Cat Empire!
Australian jazz and funk band, The Cat Empire is back with their new album Bird in Paradise! This project is the band’s tenth studio album that was made spontaneously in order to capture the group’s raw and candid energy. The lead singer, Felix Riebl, took inspiration from Flamenco and wanted the album to be filled with bright and colorful sound. The project was created through playing on the band’s natural live chemistry and removing the influence of modern production.
“Going to Live” shows off the group’s combined artistry through lively vocals and vibrant instrumentation. The vocals transition back and forth between English and Spanish with a powerful Spanish chorus. The lyricism features lines that capture the feelings of being entranced within a city “Ain’t that worth something before it starts again? / In this city I’m in where the true hearts beat, they sing/ Woah, woah-oh-oh-oh-oh “. The track pulls listeners in to the experience of The Cat Empire’s live recording style because of the dynamic instrumentation and production style. The song leaves you feeling like you are in the room with the band by the end of the song!
