Trauna-Runner

“Runner” by Trauna is Casey’s DJ pick of the week!

Trauna is a local band formed by Connor Robertson and Liz Freel. Created during the COVID-19 lockdown, the duo decided to work together so Robertson could hone in on his production skills while also bringing Freel’s songs to life. Their new song “Runner” was the first song they wrote for their second EP, but marks their third release following “Stonehenge” and “Channel Surfer.” According to the band, “Runner” is all about focusing on your own self-care, as opposed to concerning yourself with how you feel others could improve. In comparison to their previous work, “Runner” takes a more instrumentally stripped-back approach to their sound. Calling upon the sounds of punk, 50s pop, classic rock, and surf rock, executing a daring yet successful blend of influences.

Trauna’s latest single effortlessly blends their influences into a track that is right on time for summer. With guitar strumming that sounds like something you might find on a Roy Orbison record, meshed with the shredding of Dick Dale and a punchy bass line that holds the song down, this track is a force to be reckoned with. Lead singer Liz Freel delivers a strong vocal performance that cuts through the lush background vocals, striking a truly perfect balance. If you’re looking for a song to listen to with the windows down, then this one’s for you!
