Jay: “Miss June” by Freak Slug

Jay’s DJ Pick of the week is “Miss June” by British alternative/indie artist Freak Slug. Popping out in the music scene in 2019, Freak Slug has continued to release singles and albums year after year. Her new EP, released November 7th, ranges from upbeat indie light guitar songs to slower, almost psychedelic songs. The guitar in “Miss June” is reminiscent of Counting Crows, with a vibe similar to that. A great addition to your “nostalgic and melancholy” playlist.

Dan: “Objection!” by Finn Wolfhard

You read it right, the Stranger Things actor is Dan’s DJ Pick of the Week! Most know Finn Wolfhard as Mike from Stranger Things, but many don’t know he’s also a musician. Former member of Canadian indie band Calpurnia, and current member of band The Aubreys, Finn has a lot of experience mixing indie and alternative rock. He has a unique sound and writes about finding himself and his identity after being placed in the spotlight at a young age. “Objection!” circles the love Finn has for his fanbase and those around him, set to light guitar and drums. His debut album, “Happy Birthday!”, was released on June 6, 2025.

Stephanie: “NOT TODAY” by Kim Gordon

Steph’s DJ Pick of the week is “NOT TODAY” by famed bassist, guitarist, and vocalist Kim Gordon. The song, a sneak peek of her new album “PLAY ME”, encompasses her past bass and guitar experience. A work of moving rhythms, the song emanates confidence, emotion, and Kim’s hip-hop-inspired vocals. It sounds like nothing Kim has released before, and it marks the start of her new era. Her new album “PLAY ME” is out everywhere you can stream music on March 13th.

Casey: “Combo Amp” by Finger Foods

Casey’s DJ Pick is local band Finger Foods and their single “Combo Amp”. This song is the third single off their new album “Detroit”, released January 17th. “Combo Amp” is reminiscent of many new country songs, with an intro full of harmonica and guitar. The song echoes the feelings of growing up too fast and coming back home after being gone for a little too long. Finger Foods has a show at The Blue Room this Saturday, January 24th. Show starts at 7 pm!

Rev: “Hummingbird” by Colony House

Our fifth and final DJ Pick comes from Rev, who decided on “Hummingbird” by indie band Colony House. The song, released last Friday, January 16th, is the third single from their new album “77 (Pt. 2)”, which releases February 12th. Known for their hits “You Know It” and “Silhouettes”, Colony House focuses on indie beats and guitar solos, pushing the edges of what indie bands can do. “Hummingbird” brings together a beachy production, the feeling of being stuck, and a banging guitar and drum duo. Their tour starts next month, and they’re coming to Nashville on March 28th at The Pinnacle, so don’t miss them! 😉
