After nearly a decade of being a band, Arts Fishing Club has released their debut album, Rothko Sky. DJ Mel caught up with the band backstage at Bonnaroo 2023 to find out more.

The Wisconsin-born band of cousins is now local to Music City. Over the years, AFC has crafted a folk-indie-rock sound not quite like any other. They have released countless singles and several EPs since 2015. Their 10-track debut album released on the same day as their performance at Bonnaroo, making it a very special weekend for the band. Earlier that week, Lightning 100’s 615 show gave its listeners an early pre-release listen, playing Rothko Sky front to back.

You’ll hear the band talk about the album title, which comes from the abstract painter, Mark Rothko, and other inspirations and homages in their music. The band members also shared some of their favorite performances of the festival, from Sylvan Esso to Kendrick Lamar to Fleet Foxes.

The excitement continues for the band, who will have shows on the East Coast and the Midwest through the summer. You can find tour dates and the rest of the AFC website here. Be sure to check out the full interview below!
