Gracie’s Pick: “Still Around” by Friko
Gracie’s intern pick of the week is “Still Around” by Friko. I picked this song because it has been one of my favorites to hear on Lightning 100 this summer. Friko is an indie rock band from Chicago, and “Still Around” has a sound that feels energetic without being too much. I like that it is catchy, but still has a nostalgic and emotional edge to it. The chorus stands out, and the whole track has a momentum that makes it easy to keep listening to. It is the kind of song that feels fresh but familiar, which is why it has stuck with me.
Josh’s Pick: “Evergreen” by Young the Giant
Josh’s intern pick of the week is “Evergreen,” by Young the Giant. This song has been featured on Lightning 100 and has been stuck in my head ever since. “Evergreen” is the first track on Young the Giant’s newest album, Victory Garden. The song has slower verses that make the chorus seem big and powerful. It also has a great vibe and is perfect to listen to at home, in the car, or hanging out with friends.
Ella’s Pick: “Hot Slob” by Sylvan Esso
Ella’s intern pick of the week is “Hot Slob” by Sylvan Esso. As our last intern pick of the week for the summer, I find it incredibly fitting to close this internship with the same artist I opened it with. Of course, Sylvan Esso is one of my favorite artists, so this song is naturally my song of the summer. Whenever this song comes on the radio, I know exactly what I’m in for, and I’m turning the volume dial up in the car. This loud, tongue-in-cheek song is playful and fun for the summer. It has a loud and messy elastic groove that keeps you plugged in all the way through. Thanks for sticking with us and reading our intern picks. Have a great summer, and keep listening to Lightning 100!
