Lightning 100 is excited to announce Colony House and their song “Hummingbird” as our Local Artist of the Week!

Casey’s pick for Local Artist of the Week is the Franklin natives, Colony House. Made up of brothers Caleb and Will Chapman, along with their friends Scott Mills and Parke Cottrell, Colony House makes upbeat indie rock music with surf and alternative rock influences. The group has had major success so far in its career. Their 2017 album Only the Lonely charted No. 76 on the Billboard 200 charts, and the track “You Know It” had huge success on TikTok, gaining over 100 million streams. The band’s last album The Cannonballers, was heavily surf rock-influenced. It supported themes of summer, recklessness, and taking advantage of one’s youth. The band has shared that in their new 77 era, they want to focus on slowing down and looking at life with more intention.

Colony House’s newest album, 77 (Pt. 2), came out last month, and it features the track “Hummingbird.” This track does a great job of gradually building momentum throughout the song. It balances out the upbeat and glittery drum beat with a calming synth. The lyrics explore feelings of being stuck in place while life is passing you by too fast. Caleb sings, “hovering at the window watching the seasons change.” “Hummingbird” is a quarter-life crisis anthem about coming into maturity and searching for meaning. The number 77 is important to the band because it is known for representing forgiveness, reassurance, and provision. Caleb explains that it’s inspired the band to take an eternal perspective and grow away from the reckless themes in their previous work.

Colony House is currently on tour and Lightning 100 is excited to present them for their stop in Nashville at The Pinnacle Saturday, March 28th! Make sure to get your tickets!
