Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Wandering Eyes” by Stray Arcade!
Stray Arcade is a Nashville-based indie rock band consisting of Kevin Babb, Jake Kimble and Jameson Cunningham. Inspired by The Charlatans, Teenage Fanclub and The Dandy Warhols, Stray Arcade channels 90s Britpop and classic rock ‘n’ roll to keep its listeners engaged.
Stray Arcade debuted with its 2023 single “Wandering Eyes,” later featured on the band’s first EP Underneath It All. This rockin’ track makes us excited to see what the future holds for Stray Arcade.
“Wandering Eyes” opens with a roaring guitar riff, building percussion and Babb’s yelled “Yeah!” Within seconds, the track instantly feels nostalgic.
“Wandering Eyes” sounds like a warm, inviting summer day. Its toe-tapping energy is infectious, and Babb’s expressive vocals cut through the band’s full arrangement. The choruses incorporate the melodic structures found in beloved 90s alternative songs. The track’s arrangement freshly builds on this familiarity, making it so catchy that it practically begs to be replayed.
Lyrically, “Wandering Eyes” expresses admiration in clear, concise language. Babb sings,“With the lights down / Show me who you are / All your pretty scars / And the love you’ve been missing.”
If you’ve been looking for a new local band to rock out to, look no further than Stray Arcade.
