“The Rain” by Little Quirks is Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the Week! Little Quirks is a folk-pop group hailing from New South Wales, Australia. The band formed in 2015 through the passion for music shared between three members of the Toole family. The band has released three EPs and a handful of singles since then, recruiting two additional family members along the way. Little Quirks specializes in the creation of high-energy folk music through their unique chemistry, instrument choices, and vocal harmonies.
The overall theme and vibe of “The Rain” shifts throughout the song. At first, the song comes off as an unplugged folk tune, featuring strummed acoustic guitar and solo vocals. As the verse builds, drums and strings fill in some holes in the atmosphere. As the song develops, the occasional interjections from the electric guitar, keyboard and bass become a full pop groove in the first chorus. The song shifts between these three levels of intensity, shifting into high-gear each chorus. Each section after the first verse features some form of vocal harmony, especially in each chorus. While not overpowering, these harmonies do present a higher level of energy and freedom than the solo vocals.
“The Rain” is Little Quirks’ first original musical release in over a year, following up their November 2020 single “Someone to Hold”. Currently, the band’s show schedule includes few music festivals in Australia and the UK over the summer. However, they have teased an important announcement coming up, which could add more to their itinerary. To make sure you don’t miss out, be sure to keep up with the Little Quirks through their social media pages and website. Also, feel free to check out the official music video for “The Rain” below!
