Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week
Will Butler from Arcade Fire made his solo debut in 2015 with his first album Policy. With the release of his newest song “Surrender,” Butler announces a brand new album due for release on September 25 of this year.
Based off of the musician’s Instagram post and his newest single, the creation of Generations was sparked long before the 2020 Black Lives Matter Movement. This upbeat song is very fast paced, and the video accompanies this high energy with serene pictures of flowers and the night sky. At one minute and thirty seconds into the video, viewers see an interview of Butler with a closed caption. He speaks out on quarantine, BLM, and mass incarceration. At this point, “Surrender” begins to develop a deeper meaning.
