Our ONErpm Hitmaker this week is Nightly with their new song “like i do” from their upcoming album, Wear Your Heart Out, due out August 25th. This feel-good indie-pop tune is guaranteed to get your foot tapping and head nodding along.
Formed in 2016 in Nashville, Nightly is the brainchild of Joey Beretta and Jonathan Capeci. The cousins began making music together before they were old enough to drive. After pursing music together in the band Dinner and a Suit, they decided to start a new project called Nightly. They took the name from a texting abbreviation for “Goodnight, Love You.” Members Nicholas Sainato, Joey Beretta and Jonathan Capeci took off almost immediately. In 2016, Beretta and Capeci penned a breakup song called “XO,” which went viral. The track began racking up hundreds of thousands of plays, resulting in a deal with Interscope Records. Nightly has continued to impress again and again, now capturing our attention with “like i do”.
“like i do” has all the positive energy you need, leaning into the excitement of a new love. Not only does this song have that upbeat and bouncy instrumental and lyrics you can sing at the top of your lungs, the music video makes it impossible not to smile. The band donated their budget for the video to Wags and Walks in Nashville. And instead, the members took three of the adoptable dogs – Sol, Sable and Harlow – who had been waiting the longest to be adopted, out for a “dream day” in Nashville. Capeci revealed to fans that he actually ended up adopting Harlow, who is now affectionately known as Harley.
