Mel’s DJ Pick of the Week is “The Bridge” from Houston artist d4vd (pronounced “David”). From gamer to artist, he has an unconventional start to his music career.
Originally a professional Fortnite gamer, d4vd spent his time uploading gaming montages onto his channel which would amass over 50,000 subscribers. In order to avoid copyright issues he started to create his own beats that would transform into full blown songs.
At only 18 years old, d4vd has created a unique and developed sound. After releasing a number of singles since 2021 he debuted his first EP Petals to Thorns. It highlights his versatility and talent as an artist and is huge step forward in his career.
“The Bridge” is a beautiful end to the new collection of songs. Acoustic guitar sets the somber tone and is accompanied by poetic lyrics. It quickly builds into a driving chorus that conveys the story of one-side devotion and the overwhelming pain one feels. Backed with driving guitar and heavy drums, “The Bridge” is a standout on the EP.
