Dan’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Tangled” by Ceramic Animal! “Tangled” is the opening track from the band’s newest album, Sweet Unknown. The song is an acoustic-backed, electric-riff fusion of sounds that sets the album up for this previous psych-rock band’s transition into their new alt-western style. “Tangled” is incredibly catchy and carefree. Besides it’s easy to listen to nature, the song sounds like the brainchild of The Strokes and The Growlers, tinged with the spirit of glam-rock artists like David Bowie and T-Rex.
“’Tangled’ is about falling hard for someone, but life separates you,” says lead singer Chris Regan. “The distance makes it harder to trust this person you care so much about…but that separation can create a stronger bond because you have to work harder to keep the relationship alive.”
Before the most recent album release, Ceramic Animal’s repertoire consisted of three self-released albums. This era of DIY-music came to an end earlier this year when the band was signed to Dan Auerbach’s (The Black Keys frontman) Record Company Easy Eye Sound. Ceramic Animal joined The Black Keys on the road for their Dropout Boogie tour this summer. Now, the band is playing a handful of their own headlining shows—one of which takes place in Nashville. The show is on September 30th at The Basement. Find out more about the show here! In the meantime, make sure to check out the music video for “Tangled” below!
