Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the week!
Today’s DJ pick comes from garage rock gods, Gold Connections. Founding member, Will Marsh started to dabble in music in college at William and Mary in Virginia, where he met Will Toledo of Car Seat Headrest. The pair produced and recorded Marsh’s self-titled EP in 2017. Since the early days, Gold Connections has been busy creating grudge rock that’s nostalgic for the ’90s. Mixing the songwriting style of Marsh with gritty instrumentation, Gold Connections creates a sound that mixes underground indie with garage rock in a seamless way. Some notable tracks from their 2018 album, Popular Fiction, include “New Religion”, “Salt”, and “Isabel”.
The subject of today’s affection, “Stick Figures” comes from their upcoming new EP Ammunition that will be released on November 16th via AWAL. “Stick Figures” takes you back to the post-grunge era of the early ’90s, imagine if Build To Spill and Twin Peaks collaborated on a song. You really can’t help but nod your head to this single, it’s infectious and will have you press the rewind button over and over again. Ammunition will be the first self-produced and mastered record by Gold Connections.
