Jayson’s DJ Pick of the week is “Good Together” by Lake Street Dive!
“Good Together” is the newest track from the five-piece and marks their first release of the new year. It’s a great welcome into their newest era of music. The release comes alongside the announcement of their next album, Good Together, releasing on June 21. This marks Lake Street Drive’s eighth studio album.
This album marks the first time the friends wrote together during the early stages. “In the past we’d written pieces of songs and shared them with each other and build them up from there, but we always had the space to listen and reflect in total privacy, ” says vocalist Rachael Price. “At first it was terrifying to write together in the same room, but as soon as we got started it felt so fun. We very quickly realized, ‘Oh we need to do this again and again.’”
While still being rooted in pop, the band has been able to lace jazz, soul, and folk influence into their discography. “Good Together” is a prime example of their immense musical talent. Featuring a duet between vocalist Rachael Price and keyboardist Akie Bermiss, the track is able to sonically soar. Lake Street Dive have called their newest album a “joyful rebellion.” The eleven track LP is a way for the band to remind everyone to “take your joy very seriously,” as drummer Mike Calabrese put it. “Good Together,” in this way, is the perfect song to release first and to start the album with. It has the groovy sonics they’re known for while still being something totally new for the five-piece.
The band is set to hit the road for their North American tour in the summer. Playing bigger venues than ever, their energetic live shows are bound to reach new heights. These dates also include a night at Ascend Amphitheater on July 13. This tour will also mark the band’s first-ever headline show at Madison Square Garden!
