Casey’s DJ pick of the week is “Ready To Go” by White Animals.

After a long wait, 80s Nashville rock legends White Animals are back and better than ever. Alongside their new 11-song album Star Time, “Ready To Go” showcases the band’s charm that kicked off their career all those years ago.

White Animals hit the ground running in the 80s, playing live on MTV, opening for acts like Talking Heads and The Ramones, and playing nearly 300 shows a year. The band called it quits in 1987, later playing some reunion shows and releasing an album in 2001. But after a 23-year hiatus, the band is finally back and making and performing their music. Star Time is the result of the band taking the time to create the album that they’ve always wanted to make. “We would always say, ‘We just want to make a record that sounds like us live,’ and we kind of felt like we never did that,” bassist Steve Boyd says.

“Ready To Go” is a straight-up rocker. The bluesy rock tune showcases heavy guitar riffs and a creative combination of acoustic and electronic drums. The catchy song will stick in your head after only one listen. Listening to the song, I picture driving on a long highway, windows down while the summer breeze blows through my hair. “Ready To Go” highlights the band’s enduring passion for rock n’ roll and is a testament to White Animals staying true to their sound all these years later.
