The Dip

“Paddle to the Stars” by The Dip is Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week! The Dip is a Seattle-based band formed in 2013 by jazz students attending the University of Washington. Starting out as a local party band, The Dip grew and evolved thanks to the members’ passion for creating and performing music. While signed to Dualtone Records, The Dip has released two EPs and two albums. The band’s unique style combines traditional pop instrumentation with a jazzy horn section and vocal elements derived from soul music.

“Paddle to the Stars” is an upbeat love song sprinkled with the raw emotion of soul music. While the percussion instruments lay down a pop-inspired foundation, the guitar and bass hone in a more funky feel. The three-piece horn section interjects via bluesy riffs and swells, reflecting the band’s roots in jazz and blues. The vocal delivery is powerful and smooth, with background vocals added in each chorus to complement the other harmonic instruments.

“Paddle to the Stars” is one of two singles released in advance of The Dip’s third studio album, Sticking With It. Pre-orders and previews for Sticking With It are available here, with the album slated for release March 4th. In addition, The Dip begins their 2022 tour February 26th, which includes a performance in Nashville on April 2nd. Until then, you can keep up with The Dip through their Facebook page and their website. Also, be sure to check out the official lyric video to “Paddle to the Stars” below:
