Rockabilly icon Wanda Jackson’s new single “Two Shots” is a multigenerational collaboration of iconic female artists. The latest release from Jackson’s album Encore, “Two Shots” was written by Elle King and features Joan Jett’s production and vocal harmonies. This feisty single from the Queen of Rockabilly is Casey’s DJ pick of the week!
Described by Jackson as a song that “delivers pure femme fatale energy,” the single’s clever lyrics depict a woman warning her lover that he’ll be sorry for ever doing her wrong. Jackson tells her lover that if he’s unfaithful or decides to leave her, she’ll give him “one, two shots to your heart” (in addition to several other colorful threats). The song’s instrumentals were performed by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and feature a classic, upbeat rockabilly rhythm with prominent guitars.
After a long and distinguished career that spanned multiple genres, Jackson retired from touring in 2019 and has stated that her latest album Encore will be her last. The album is a commendable swan song and, after a quick listen to “Two Shots,” it’s adamantly clear that Wanda Jackson will always know how to keep rocking. Check out “Two Shots” below:
