Hootie hoo! This week has been a tough week for all of Nashville. So this week on Lightning Bugs, we talked about how tragedies like this tornado can hurt but can also unite us as a community. We asked our listeners to spread messages of love and positivity as well as invited them to share their worries and fears. Because sometimes, when you’re going through a tough situation, it can help you feel better to hear from other people who have been through a hard time. Kate called in the night before the show to send her love to everyone in Nashville and remind us all to stay strong.
Mr. Jack’s first reaction to the tornado was to ask, “What can I do to help?” a question that many of us are asking this week. There are lots of ways to help, and the safest way to help is to work with Hands On Nashville. They are working with emergency services to find the best ways we can help the community. If you register on hon.org, they will contact you about volunteer opportunities during this recovery process.
Mary Caroline told us how she’s helping her community! She likes to spread the love by volunteering at her local animal shelter. Mary Caroline also told us that we can donate to people in need and help rebuild houses! Thank you for helping your community and educating others on how to help, Mary Caroline.
It is experiences like these that remind us of what is truly important. Being kind to others and spreading positivity is what unites us and brings us together. Ruby emphasized this by telling us about the love virus and that we can spread love and care by doing kind deeds. Maya told us her favorite quote…

Things can be difficult. But if you’re scared, it’s okay. If you’re worried, it’s okay. You have to be honest with yourself if you’re going to address it and if you’re going to move forward.
